The proposed proclamation would declare the week of April 17 through the 23 as National Volunteer Week in Rosemount. In the words of the proposed proclamation, "the City of Rosemount, Minnesota benefits greatly from the volunteer efforts of its citizens to meet social needs," and "volunteering promotes fellowship and unity, as well as increased community awareness and the maintenance of [Rosemount's] quality of life." As part of the observance, the City Council is asking the public to make nominations of volunteers in Rosemount who can be honored during the next regular meeting of the Council on April 19. As was the case last year, the Council wants to bring public recognition to those who can "inspire us by example." Both individuals and entire groups can be nominated. Residents who can share nominations with us should telephone City Hall by this Friday (April 8 There is also information on the City website in the "News" section. PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, the City of Rosemount, Minnesota benefits greatly from the volunteer efforts of its citizens to meet social needs; WHEREAS, volunteering promotes fellowship and unity, as well as increased community awareness and the maintenance of the quality of life; WHEREAS, based on federal surveys, it is likely that more than 4,000 Rosemount residents take part in volunteer work, putting their time and energy to work in ways that often reduce the burden on taxpayers; WHEREAS, the Rosemount City Council plans for the second straight year to recognize volunteers nominated by the public; THEREFORE, as Mayor of the City of Rosemount, I hereby do proclaim that we celebrate the thousands of volunteers in our community and across the country by proclaiming April 17 through 23 as National Volunteer Week. April 17 -23, 2005 is National Volunteer Week in the City of Rosemount Mayor Date 5.b. PROCLAMATION DECLARING APRIL 3 -9, 2005, TO BE COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT WEEK WHEREAS, community development services provided in our community by the Community Development Department are an integral part of citizens' everyday lives; and WHEREAS, the Community Development Department defines future City directions through such functions and services as land use and comprehensive planning, development plan review, redevelopment, economic development, zoning and subdivision compliance, preservation of existing housing supply, and protective inspections; and WHEREAS, among the City's most fundamental ordinances are those which provide standards for safe construction of buildings in which people live, work, and play, and WHEREAS, through the efforts of code officials and their cooperative relationship with the construction industry, the administration of these health and life- safety standards is assured; and WHEREAS, the technical knowledge, skills, and abilities of the community development staff promotes the health, safety, and comfort of this community which greatly depends on these protective inspections and services; and WHEREAS, it is highly appropriate that the services provided by the community development staff be recognized and appreciated. NOW, THEREFORE, I, AS MAYOR OF THE CITY OF ROSEMOUNT, State of Minnesota, with the consent and support of the Rosemount City Council, do hereby proclaim the week of April 3 through 9, 2005, to be Community Development Week in the City of Rosemount and encourage all citizens to recognize the contributions that community development staff make every day to our health, safety, comfort, quality of life and to create awareness as to the importance of construction and building codes and to spotlight the role of the dedicated code official in administering those codes Date ATTEST: Mayor City Clerk
