EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
ISSUE
The City has participated with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) /Metro Greenways
(MG) and Dakota County in the purchase of a 25 15 acre conservation easement from Aina Wiklund on a
25 15 acre parcel owned by Ms Wiklund
Ms Wiklund has spht her property and would hke to donate the southern 15 acres (identified as parcel B
on the attached map) to the City of Rosemount
BACKGROUND
In September of 2003 the City Council passed a resolution supporting the efforts of Aina Wildund to
preserve her land and the application of her property in the Dakota County Natural Area Program
The Wiklund property provides important wildlife habitat and serves as a component of a larger wildhfe
corridor as described m the Northern Dakota County Greenway and as part of the Metro Wildlife
Corndors Project The property is identified as containing Important natural areas and the City of
Rosemount's Parks, Trails and Open Space Plan has identified a potential nature -based community park m
the vicinity of the Vilclund propern
This project was a good example of how a strong partnership of state, county, and local governments,
private landowners, and non profits can work together toward the common goal of protecting important
natural areas for current and future generations
SUMMARY
Staff is ic.coinmending the City Council approve a resolution accepting the donation of 15 acres of land
from Aina Wiklund

WHEREAS, The City of Rosemount has participated with the Minnesota Department of
Natural Resources (DNR) /Metro Greenways (MG) and Dakota County m the purchase of a
25 15 acre conservation easement from Ama Wiklund on a 25 15 acre parcel located at
12210 Bacardi Avenue, Rosemount, MN, to permanently protect and preserve the
property's natural resources
WHEREAS, the conservation easements and greenways can be a valuable tool for the
preservation of open space and wildlife corridors
WHEREAS, the City of Rosemount supports the preservation and restoration of open
space for its positive impact on our community's natural resources
WHEREAS, Ama Wiklund has offered to donate 15 acres of land to the City of
Rosemount
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that with grateful appreciation, City Council
of the City of Rosemount adopts a resolution accepting the donation of land from Ama
Wiklund
