The estimated cost for this portion of the project was $120,960. At the bid opening on September 29 ten bids were submitted on excavation, site utility, or excavation and site utility work combined. The bids were checked for accuracy and tabulated Please see the attached bid tabulation indicating the bidders as Max Steimnger (excavation and site utility), Dahn Construction (excavation and site utility), Northwest Asphalt (excavation), Stocker Excavating (excavation), Nedeau Excavating (excavation and site utihty), Nova Frost (site utility), St. Paul Utihties (site utility), Metro Utilities (site ut and Valley Rich (site utility). AMCON is recommending the excavation and site utihties contracts be awarded to Dahn Construction Company for a combined contact amount of $110,969. By accepting the bid at this time, the site can be graded and utilities installed this year. This, in turn, would allow the 2006 buildmg construction schedule to be shortened by as much as a month. The construction manager for the project, AMCON Construction, has prepared a report requesting approval to proceed with the Dahn Construction Company contract. We anticipate the excavation and the ordering of product will begin m November. SUMMARY The attached resolution lists the lowest responsible bid for the excavation and site utility work for the Fire Station 1I project. A RESOLUTION RECEIVING BIDS AND AWARDING EXCAVATION AND SITE UTILTIES CONTRACT FOR FIRE STATION II CONSTRUCTION PROJECT WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Rosemount had ordered the Advertisement for Bids for the construction of Fire Station II and such bids were opened and read aloud publicly on September 29, 2005; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Rosemount, Minnesota, as follows: ADOPTED this 1 day of November, 2005. ATTEST: CITY OF ROSEMOUNT DAKOTA COUNTY, MINNESOTA RESOLUTION 2005 1. All bids on the construction of Fire Station!! have been received and tabulated. 2. The bid from Dahn Construction Company, in the amount of $110,969 for excavation and site utilities is in accordance with the plans and specifications and advertisement for bids and is the lowest responsible bid and shall be and hereby is accepted. 3. We are requesting action on the bid recommendation. The schedule is included for your information. BID RECOMMENDATION On September 29' Amcon CM along with Vetter Johnson Architects and the City' of Rosemount opened bids for Fite Station 42. Due to numerous reasons the bids tumed oul to be unfavorable. Amcon CM is recommending that only the excavation and site utilities contracts be awarded to Mahn Construction Company, LLC For a combined amount of 110,969. We arc also recommending that this work be executed this fall. By grading the site and installing the utilities it will allow the building construction to start approximately 1 mouth earlier in the spring. SCITEDUI.E Frain now until the first part of January we will be working with the architect and the city to value engineer the project into a price range that is acceptable without jeopardizing the function or aesthetic value of the building. We plan to rebid the project in late January.
