Treasurer of the Booster Club Niki Muske Red Pine Elementary Volunteer Coordinator City Council Meeting Date: April 19, 2005 For the second year, the City of Rosemount is observing National Volunteer Week. The City Council approved at its April 5 regular meeting a proclamation recognizing the week of April 17 23 as National Volunteer week in the City of Rosemount. The proclamation indicates that, based on a national estimate, there are more than 4,000 residents of Rosemount who give their time and energy for volunteer efforts that meet social needs in the community. The proclamation explains that volunteering "promotes fellowship and unity, as well as increased community awareness and the maintenance of the quality of life." A month ago, the City issued a call for nominations of volunteers who deserve recognition for their work. At tonight's meeting, the Council is scheduled to present certificates to 42 individuals and groups identified for their contributions to Rosemount. More than half of the recipients have indicated to City staff that they expect to attend tonight's meeting. Certificates will be mailed to those who cannot attend. List of honorees CITY OF ROSEMOUNT EXECUTIVE SUMMARY FOR ACTION Many of the volunteers that the City Council commends tonight are standing in for themselves, and for dozens of other Rosemount residents who commit time to the community's schools. In an age of tight budgets, our education system benefits greatly from the services and fundraising assistance provided by volunteers. They also provide an excellent example for Rosemount's young people to see the benefits and the satisfactions from volunteerism. (NJ OTe Sc Own Q_ Qoccec'hcsns t\ I•ot c‘r\. 3/4■ S Cop..) LS. Quite a commitment The recent survey of Rosemount residents indicates that one of the services provided by the City that residents value most highly is public safety. We have a dedicated staff of police professionals, but their service is enhanced by the work of volunteers, including a full staff of chaplains who give their support to those of our residents in their time of greatest need. 2 Matt Karney RAHA President Volunteer work Ken Snare RAAA Volunteer work Forrest Krogh Rosemount Seniors Volunteer work June Korthauer Garden Club Volunteer work Deanna Simpson Garden Club Volunteer work Joe Walsh Helps Park Rec with Teen Night and Leprechaun Days Mid Summer Faire. Some of them work in close cooperation with the Parks Rec department, including those who have agreed to "adopt" a park. Others are members of independent non profit organizations that contribute to Rosemount's quality of life. 3 Community Action Council Volunteers and Neighbors (Doreen Ulrich) Adopt -A -Park: Family Resource Center Park Brownie Troop #187 (Cathy Smith) Adopt -A -Park: Jaycee Park Brownie Troop #2400 (Debra Lembecker) Adopt -A -Park: Kidder Park Haage, Peterson and Studley Families (Katie Peterson) Adopt -A -Park: Lions Park Fluegel's Farm, Garden and pet (Greg Fluegel) Adopt -A -Park: Schwarz Pond Park Brea, Brianna, Curtney, Emma, Grace, Jordan, Kaleigh, Melissa (Angie DeBettignies) Adopt -A -Park: Shannon Park Marshall and Heidi Grange Adopt -A -Park: Winds Park Many of our churches contribute to the community through volunteer efforts that reach out to those in need. And some of our volunteers lend a helping hand to Rosemount's older residents who need a little extra help to remain independent and vital members of our community. Dick Barnes Dick has helped hundreds of senior citizens with daily living. According to Sandi Smith, he really deserves to be honored but will say he is glad to do it because it gives him something to do. 4
