ATTACHMENTS: Resolution letter APPROVED BY: ddj RECOMMENDED ACTION: Motion to approve the participation in a Regional Assistance to Firefighting Grant (AFG) SUMMARY The council is asked to approve a resolution for the participation of the Rosemount Fire Department in obtaining an Assistance to Firefighter’s Grant (AFG) that will cover the purchase and replacement of thirty-seven new self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBAs). The Rosemount Fire Department will be applying for this grant along with the cities of Hastings and Inver Grove Heights. The monies from this grant would be utilized to replace the existing Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) that includes air packs, bottles and masks. If awarded, the Rosemount portion of this grant would be approximately $250,000 with a ten percent match. The current SCBA’s were purchased in 2004 and are no longer being manufactured. This would be the second attempt at obtaining this grant with the previous attempt being in 2015. CITY OF ROSEMOUNT DAKOTA COUNTY, MINNESOTA RESOLUTION 2016 - A RESOLUTION COMMITTING TO PARTICIPATION IN A REGIONAL ASSISTANCE TO FIREFIGHTERS GRANT WHEREAS, the Rosemount Fire Department is required to provide self-contained breathing apparatus for the safety of its personnel; and WHEREAS, Rosemount Fire’s self-contained breathing apparatus are fourteen years old and the operational life span of the self-contained breathing apparatus is limited to a maximum of fifteen years by national standards; and WHEREAS, five neighboring fire departments are in the process of replacing their self-contained breathing apparatus; and WHEREAS, the Assistance to Firefighters Grant encourages regional collaboration to ensure interoperability of equipment among neighboring departments; and WHEREAS, Rosemount Fire desires to participate in a regional process to select and purchase replacement self-contained breathing apparatus equipment in the most cost effective way. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Rosemount City Council for the Rosemount Fire Department that it commits to participation in the Regional Assistance to Firefighters Grant application and subsequent grant award requirements, including but not limited to the 10% local match, in cooperation with the Cities of Hastings, Inver Grove Heights and Rosemount.
