Approve Contract with Architect for Bloomfield ShelterAGENDA ITEM: Approve Contract with Architect for Bloomfield Shelter AGENDA SECTION: Consent PREPARED BY: Dan Schultz, Parks Recreation Director AGERE s ki ATTACHMENTS: None APPROVED BY: RECOMMENDED ACTION: Motion to recommend the City enter into a contract with JEA Architects to design, create the plans and specifications, and act as a construction administrator for the construction of the park shelter building at Bloomfield Park in the amount of 7.75% of the construction cost. 4 ROSE MOUNT CITY COUNCIL City Council Regular Meeting: February 7, 2006 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY ISSUE Staff recently sent out a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) to seven firms providing architectural services. The request asked that they provide information on quahficauons, comparable past protects and pricing. BACKGROUND The Master Plan for Bloomfield Park included a multi -use park budding. The building would be used much like the buildings at Jaycee and Central Parks. Those buildings are used as watt houses m the winter and in the summer for various recreation programs The buildings are also available for prn-ate rentals during the spring, summer and fall The City's 2006 CIP Budget includes $250,000 to construct the park building SUMMARY The City has received three subrruttals. Each firm providing a submittal is well qualified and two have done work with the City in the past Each firm also has a strong background m the area of working with municipahues Listed below are the films who submitted proposals and the percent of the construction cost they charge to cover their fees. JEA Arcbttects CNH Architects Richard Fischer Architects 7 75°/o 8.00% 12 0 ./o The Parks and Recreation Commission review ed the proposals on Monday, January 23, 2006 After reviewing the proposals, the Commission is recommending that the City contract with JEA Architects to design, create the plans and specifications and act as the contract admuustrator. The Commissioners were impressed by JEA's background and past work with the City. JEA Architects designed the Family Resource Center and the shelter at Central Park.
