ATTACHMENTS: None APPROVED BY: ddj RECOMMENDED ACTION: Motion to appoint Community Development Director and Code Compliance Specialist as Assistant Weed Inspectors to act on the City’s behalf in enforcement of Minnesota Statute, Chapter 18. SUMMARY Minnesota Statute Chapter 18, the “Noxious Weed Law”, states that “the mayor of each city shall act as local weed inspectors within their respective municipalities” and that “a municipality may appoint one or more assistants to act on behalf of the appointing authority as a weed inspector for the municipality”. In the past the City has annually appointed the Mayor and an assistant weed inspector. This annual appointment is not required by statute. Instead, staff recommends appointing the positions of Community Development Director and Code Compliance Specialist indefinitely as Assistant Weed Inspectors, as allowed by Minnesota Statute 18.80, Subd. 3.
