Port Authority Appointment EXECUTIVE SUMMARY City Council Regular Meeting: January 3, 2017 AGENDA ITEM: Port Authority Appointment AGENDA SECTION: Consent PREPARED BY: Kim Lindquist, Community Development Director AGENDA NO. 6.m. ATTACHMENTS: None APPROVED BY: ddj RECOMMENDED ACTION: Motion to Approve the Mayors Recommendation to Appoint Dan Wolf to Complete a Non-Councilmember Term on the Port Authority with the Term to Expire 3/31/2020. SUMMARY The Port Authority Resolution of Establishment indicates that Councilmembers can serve on the Port Authority. If Councilmembers choose not to serve on the commission, commissioners who are “not members of the council shall be appointed for terms of six (6) years.” At the end of 2016, Dan Wolf’s term would be up as his term coincides with Councilmember Demuth’s time in office. The new Councilmember, Heidi Freske, has indicated she would like to serve on the Port Authority so there are no additional “council positions” to fill with a public representative. However, some time ago, Tom Luing had resigned from the Port Authority and that position has remained vacant. The Mayor is charged with appointing members to the Port Authority with approval by the City Council. The Mayor is recommending that Dan Wolf, currently a member of the Port Authority be appointed to the vacant public seat for the remainder of the term, which would be from 1/2017 to 3/31/2020. Mr. Wolf has indicated he would like to continue to serve on the Port Authority. RECOMMENDATION Motion to approve the Mayors recommendation to appoint Dan Wolf to complete the non-council term for the Rosemount Port Authority with a term to expire on 3/31/2020.
