THE GOLD AWARD The Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest award that a Girl Scout ages 14 to 17 may earn. The organization says. Expected to attend t May be able to attend [S]omeone once described the Gold Award as being "what you really want to be remembered for" in Girl Scouting. For many, the leadership skills, organizational skills, and sense of community and commitment that come from "going for the Gold" set the foundation for a hfetime of active citizenship. The Girl Scout Council of St. Croix Valley has provided a description of their accomplishments. PROJECT: DONATION OF BLANKETS Stephanie Erlandson Jill Fagerstrom Lizabeth Mothershead Tegan Rolek Ashley Tooley Stephanie, Jill, Lizabeth, Tegan, and Ashley decided that they could best serve their community by donating blankets to organizations dedicated to serving those in need. In addition to requesting and receiving blanket and financial donations from businesses, churches, and schools, they organized a lock -in which raised blanket donations The girls also purchased fleece, which they fashioned into addinonal blankets. A total of 79 blankets were donated, with 39 gently -used and new blankets given to the Simpson Shelter in Minneapolis and 40 new blankets given to the Rosemount Community Action Council. J PROJECT: PROGRAM FOR UNDERPRIVILEGED YOUTH Cassandra Millen Diane Nitti f Melanie Tubbs Stacey Wolfe Cassandra, Diane, Melanie, and Stacey wanted to give underprivileged youth in Rosemount a chance to try something new. The girls demonstrated their individual leadership abilities by coordinating a unique program of activities, advertising the program, and seeking donations from local businesses. The participants were welcomed with patience, energy, and smiles in a safe and happy environment. The girls and the children were grateful to have had this positive and very rewarding experience.
