Home My WebLink About20160824 YCM Minutes ROSEMOUNT YOUTH COMMISSION REGULAR MEETING PROCEEDINGS AUGUST 24, 2016 CALL TO ORDER Pursuant to due call and notice thereof a regular meeting of the Rosemount Youth Commission was th held on Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at 3:48 p.m. in the Council Chambers, Room 210, 2875. 145 Street West, Rosemount. Commissioner Schalliol called the meeting to order with Youth Commissioners Armstrong, Edgar, Hinderaker, Mitchell, Powell, Saal, Wuellner and Yambing present. Staff Liaison Foster, Council Member Weisenthal, Planner Anthony Nemcek, former Council Member Shoe-Corrigan and Recording Secretary Anne Hayes were also present. Commissioners Alex, Demuth, Johnson, Nelson, Peterson, Turner and Westman were absent. ADDITIONS OR CORRECTIONS TO AGENDA Minutes show Commissioner Turner both present and absent from June meeting. Correction to reflect Commissioner Turner’s absence at June meeting. Motion Schalliol. Second by Wuellner. Motion to Adopt the Agenda. Ayes: 9 Nays: 0. Absent: 7 Motion carried. AUDIENCE INPUT None. CONSENT AGENDA Motion by Schalliol. Second by Wuellner. Motion to approve the Consent Agenda. a. Corrected minutes of June 22, 2016 Youth Commission Meeting Ayes: 9 Nays: 0. Absent: 7. Motion carried. OLD BUSINESS None. NEW BUSINESS 7.a. City Planning Planner Anthony Nemcek was present to discuss his Planning role at the City as well housing, zoning and planning commission processes, both residential and commercial. Nemcek answered questions related his job and the Community Development Department that he works in. Nemcek also discussed schooling and careers for those interested in this field. 7.b. 2016 Project Prioritization Youth Commissioners broke into subgroups to discuss a Fall Bonfire in Central Park, Christmas Tree Lighting, and the updating the Skate Park. Also discussed were a short-term goal of erecting tree markers in city parks and a long-term goal of a Summer 2017 Splash Pad event. The Commissioners would like to discuss these items with Parks and Recreation Director Dan Schultz at the next meeting and hold the meeting at the Parks and Recreation Department. 7.c. Roundtable Discussion Each Commissioner gave a short statement regarding their various current activities, including Night to Unite event, State Fair, sports, job opportunities, etc. REPORTS 8.a. Commission Member Reports None. 8.b. Next Meeting Date The next meeting of the Youth Commission is scheduled for September 28, 2016 at 3:45 p.m. in the Parks and Recreation Department Conference Room. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business to discuss, it was moved by Schalliol and seconded by Mitchell that the meeting be adjourned.
