HomeMy WebLinkAbout20160525 YCM Minutes ROSEMOUNT YOUTH COMMISSION REGULAR MEETING PROCEEDINGS MAY 25, 2016 CALL TO ORDER Pursuant to due call and notice thereof a regular meeting of the Rosemount Youth Commission was th held on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at 3:45 p.m. in the Council Chambers, 2875 145 Street West, Rosemount. Chairperson Schalliol called the meeting to order with Youth Commissioners Alex, Andrews, S. Demuth, Hinderaker, Munson, Radosevich, Saal, Westman, Wuellner, Jaren Yambing and Joan Yambing present. Incoming Commissioners Maisy Armstrong, Isabel Edgar, Alexis Johnson, Holden Mitchell, Alexa Nelson, Anna Peterson, James Powell and Katie Turner will also present. Staff Liaison Foster, Council Member Weisensel, and Recording Secretary Hayes were present. Commissioners Busho, Corrigan, and M. Demuth were absent. ADDITIONS OR CORRECTIONS TO AGENDA None. Motion by Schalliol. Second by Radosevich. Motion to Adopt the Agenda. Ayes: 12 Nays: 0. Absent: 3 Motion carried. OATH OF OFFICE Staff Liaison Foster swore in the new Youth Commission Members for the 2016 – 2017 Term. AUDIENCE INPUT None. CONSENT AGENDA Motion by Schalliol. Second by Westman. Motion to approve the Consent Agenda. a. Minutes of April 27, 2016 Youth Commission Meeting Ayes: 12 Nays: 0. Absent: 3. Motion carried. OLD BUSINESS 6.a. Approval of 2016-2017 Youth Commission Goals The 2016 – 2017 Youth Commission Goals were approved. It was noted that one of the goals was accomplished that day. A Tree Planting was held at Ailesbury Park prior to the Youth Commission meeting. Eight new members and nine current members attended the event. Motion by Schalliol. Second by Radosevich. Ayes: 12 Nays: 0. Absent: 3. Motion carried. * At 4:00 p.m. the agenda was suspended so that Police Chief Mitch Scott could address the Youth Commission about the railroad trestle area on Connemara, particularly concerning the graffiti and presence of drugs in the area. Youth Commissioners were encouraged to bring additional concerns and information to Police or School Resource Officers. 6.b. Introduction of 2016-2017 Youth Commissioners and Review of By-Laws Council Member Weisensel spoke to the Youth Commission about the Youth Commission by-laws and encouraged new members to familiarize themselves with them. 6.c. Chairperson’s Report to City Council Chairperson Schalliol will be giving a report to the City Council of the past year’s accomplishments and goals for the upcoming year at the June 7, 2016 meeting of the City Council at 7 p.m. Commissioners are invited to attend the meeting. NEW BUSINESS 7.a. Splash Pad Kickoff Event Youth Commissioners will host a Splash Pad Opening event on Wednesday, June 15 from 1-3 p.m. Freeze Pops will be given away and the Youth Commission will ask for donations of canned/boxed goods for the Rosemount Family Resource Center. Schalliol will confirm the details with Parks and Recreation Director Dan Schultz. An email will be send to the Youth Commissioners to finalize the event. 7.b. Photo Release for new Youth Commissioners Foster collected the release forms. Youth Commissioners who forgot to bring them to this meeting should bring to the next one. 7.c. Roundtable Discussion Each Commissioner gave a short statement regarding their various current activities, including Senior plans for next fall, Arbor Day Tree Giveaway, sports tournaments, summer jobs, summer trips, marching band and school awards. REPORTS 8.a. Commission Member Reports None. 8.b. Next Meeting Date The next meeting of the Youth Commission is scheduled for June 22, 2016 at 3:45 p.m. in the Council Chambers. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business to discuss, it was moved by Schalliol and seconded by Alex that the meeting be adjourned.
