EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
ISSUE
The Fire Department has placed in their 2005 Budget a rescue vehicle. Bids were opened June 21,
2005. Council has the authority to accept the bids and award the contract.
BACKGROUND
Staff has purchased a Ford F450 four -door truck chassis, super duty four -wheel drive with a diesel
engine to be outfitted with safety equipment that is in accordance with nationally recognized
guidelines and that complies with all Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. With the growth in
population a second rescue vehicle is needed. The current rescue vehicle is the most used vehicle
in the Fire Department. When the new rescue vehicle is complete, the current rescue vehicle will
be refurbished to better serve Rosemount residents as it is also in the budget.
At the bid opening on Tuesday, June 21, 2005 one bidder responded, North Central Ambulance in
the amount of $50,700. Staff noted two reasons only one bidder responded. There are only a few
companies that can provide this type of body and safety equipment, and this is a comparatively
small job request. The City of Rosemount worked with North Central Ambulance in February
2002 for the pumper refurbish and was very satisfied with their quahty workmanship and
customer service.
Fire Department Captain Mike Reis formed a committee to review the bid results. The members
of the Review Committee were Firefighters Brad Miller, Chris Dyson, Joe Gernts, Dave Bailey,
and Kevin Rambo The bid amount was within budget expectations. All specification items were
checked off by North Central Ambulance. The four points of exceptions were agreeable to the
committee. The Review Committee recommended awarding the bid to North Central
Ambulance.
SUMMARY
Staff recommends accepting the bid and awarding the contract for the Mini Rescue Vehicle Body
to North Central Ambulance for $50,700

Dear Mr. Lepel:
The Rosemount City Council approved your bid for the Fire Department's Mini Rescue
Vehicle on July 5, 2005, in the amount of $50,700 with a deliver date set 210 days following
receipt of the chassis. We anticipate the chassis delivery to you in the near future
You found some exceptions from the specifications I would like entered herein.
1. Page 5, Inspection Trips. Please be advised the preconstruction conference shall
