RECOMMENDED ACTION: Motion to approve the appointment of Mike Haeg a Assistant
Fire Chief; Scott Engelmann as Acting Fire Department Secretary; and approve the
Training Coordinator, Fire Prevention Personnel, Safety Officer, Captains and Lieutenants
as presented for April 1, 2006 to March 31, 2007.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
BACKGROUND
This is a recommepdation to appoint Michael Haeg to the position of Assistant Fire Chief for
another three years His current term expired at the end of March, and according to Fire
Department policy, the assistant chief is to be selected from applicants meeting the minimum
qualifications for the position.
In this application process, Mike was one of two applicants for the position. An interview was
held by a panel consisting of the Police Chief, Lieutenant, Assistant City Administrator and
three firefighters Mike has been the Assistant Fire Chief for six years and a member of the
Department since 1982. He is well qualified to continue in the position and it is thereby
recommended that his assignment to the position of Assistant Fire Chief be confirmed by the
Council.
In addition, it is requested that Council approve the assignment of Scott Engelmann as Acting
Fire Department Secretary Due to medical reasons, the Department has been without a
secretary since October 1, 2005 and it is unclear when the appointed secretary will be
returning to work Scott has been taking on some of the duties during the absence He is
qualified to fulfill the full duties of this position
Lastly, for Council's consideration is the attached list of suggested names for Fire
Department officers, committee members and coordinator. Chief Aker used evaluation
information and then consulted with the captains to determine who would fill each position.
SUMMARY
The Fire Department requests that Council approve the appointment of Michael Haeg as
Assistant Fire Chief, the temporary assignment of Engelmann as Acting Fire Department
Secretary; and appoint the attached listing of officers, committee members, and coordinators.
