CITY COUNCIL
City Council Meeting: August 2, 2006
ISSUE
Council approved the addition of two new police officers in the 2006 budget. The first of these officers
was hared m May. Due to the lengthy recruitment process followed to hire new police officers and the
desire to hire an additional officer by the beginning of November, it is requested that Council authorize
staff to commence the recruitment process for hating the second new pohce officer.
BACKGROUND
Due in part to the extensive background and reference checks conducted on potential police officers, the
entire luring process typically takes about three months from the time the position is posted. Authorizing
the recruitment process will allow us to begin the process now and to have the best applicant chosen by
mid- October. With this timetable the selected candidate would start after November 1, 2006.
