Traffic Safety Grant ResolutionAGENDA ITEM: Traffic Safety Grant Resolution AGENDA SECTION: Consent PREPARED BY: Gary Kalstabakken, Chief of Polio- i, AGENDA NO. 6j ATTACHMENTS: Resolution APPROVED BY RECOMMENDED ACTION: Motion to authorize the execution of a grant with e Minnesota Department of Public Office of Traffic Safety through the Dakota County Traffic Safety Group and authorizing the City of Rosemount to serve as the fiscal agent for the authorized grant tt ROSEMOUNTT City Council Meeting: July 11, 2006 CITY COUNCIL EXECUTIVE SUMMARY The Council is asked to authorize the Rosemount Police Department to participate in the next twelve month grant period with the Dakota County Traffic Safety Group. This period will be from October 1, 2006 September 30, 2007. This cooperative law enforcement traffic safety effort was first authorized by Council in May of 2005 and the grant program has been operating throughout Dakota County since approximately that time. The grant funds overtime traffic enforcement projects throughout the year and there are no financial matching requirements for the participants. Additional projects not funded by the grant are also coordinated through the program and agencies assign personnel to those projects as staffing and resources allow. The Office of Traffic Safety has recognized the level of cooperation by Dakota County law enforcement and will again be awarding a grant to the project in the amount of $70,000. Each year a participating agency serves as the fiscal agent for the grant Council is asked to approve having the City of Rosemount serve as the fiscal agent for the next grant period The staffs of the Finance and Police Departments have discussed this responsibility and have agreed to assume these dunes if authorized by Council. The attached resolution will authorize the chief of pohce to execute any grant agreements and also authorize the City of Rosemount to serve as the fiscal agent. s CITY OF ROSEMOUNT DAKOTA COUNTY, MINNESOTA RESOLUTION 2006- A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY OF ROSEMOUNT TO ENTER INTO A GRANT AGREEMENT WITH THE MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY OFFICE OF TRAFFIC SAFETY THROUGH THE DAKOTA COUNTY TRAFFIC SAFETY GROUP WHEREAS, the City of Rosemount desires to participate in the Dakota County Traffic Safety Group Grant Project, WHEREAS, the State of Minnesota requires a resolution of the City Council to participate, WHEREAS, the City has entered into previous grants to provide increased traffic enforcement and educational activities, WHEREAS, the City has partnered with other Dakota County law enforcement agencies to increase traffic safety in the community, WHEREAS, the City will partner with eleven (11) other government entities in Dakota County to increase traffic safety, WHEREAS, the City Councilors of the City of Rosemount have duly considered this matter and believe that it is m the best interests of the City to enter into a grant agreement with the Minnesota Department of Pubhc Safety Officer of Traffic Safety through the Dakota County Traffic Safety Group to provide enhanced traffic enforcement, NOW THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Chief of Police for the Rosemount Pohce Department is hereby authorized to execute such agreements and amendments as are necessary to implement the project on behalf of the Dakota County Traffic Safety Group, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City of Rosemount, through its Pohce and Finance Departments, is hereby authorized to be the fiscal agent and admuuster this grant on behalf of Dakota County Traffic Safety Group. ADOPTED this 11th day of July 2006, by the City Council of the City of Rosemount.
