ACTION: Motion10 fill Commission vacancies with the following
appointments effective
April 1, 2011::
1.

for a 3 -year term on the Utilities Commission;
4.
for a 3 -year term on the Parks and Recreation Commission;

for a 6 -year resident term on the Port Commission;
7.
to complete Council Member DeBettignies' term on Port
Authority Commission; and
8..
7 ' to complete Council Member Shoe- Corrigan's term on Port
Authority Commission.
BACKGROUND
The Commission vacancies for 2011 include two 3 -year terms on the Planning Commission; one 3 -year
term on the Utilities Commission; two 3 -year terms on the Parks and Recreation Commission; and one 6-
year resident term on the Pori Authority Commission. ,

ISSUE q
The City Council received applications from residents willing to serve as members on City advisory
commissions including the Planning, Port Authority, Parks & Recreation afnd'Utihty Commissions.
Applications for the open Commissions were available on -line or by contacting the City Clerk. The City
Council conducted interviews for those interested in serving on the Commissions on March 16, 2011.
All commission terms last for three years with the exception of the Port Authority. The mayor and
council members are automatically appointed commissioners for a term which coincides with theirterm of
mayor or council member. If the mayor or council member decline to serve as a commissioner or resigns
from the position as a commissioner, a vacancy is create which shall be filled by appointment by the mayor
with the approval of and consent of the City Council. The term should coincide with the time in office of
the individual council member whose resigriation or decision not to serve as a commissioner created the ..
vacancy., Commissioners who are not members of the City Council shall be appointed for. terms of six w
