EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
ISSUE:
Two Public Works pickup trucks are scheduled for replacement in 2011.
BACKGROUND:
Staff is requesting Council authorization to purchase two Public Works pickup trucks scheduled in the
2011 Capital Improvement Plan (CIP). The attachments provide detailed information about the current
condition of the units to be replaced.
Pickup Truck (replace #8330)
This pickup truck is 22 years old with 28,077 miles of use. It has been used primarily by the mechanics for
basic transportation (no plowing). The vehicle was taken out of service in 2010 due to failed brake lines
and low oil pressure. Based on the age and condition of this vehicle, staff recommends replacement of
this pickup truck.
Budget for replacement (vehicle only): $25,000*
Maintenance costs to -date: $5,600
Salvage value (estimated): $3,000
Pickup Truck (replace #8341)
This pickup truck is 14 years old with 67,736 miles of use. It has been used primarily by the mechanics
and the seasonal staff in the summer (no plowing). The vehicle has significant rust and rust holes in the
rear panels and bumper and may need a new transfer case. Based on the age and condition of this vehicle,
staff recommends replacement of this pickup truck.
Budget for replacement (vehicle only): $27,000*
Maintenance costs to -date: $7,230
Salvage value (estimated): $4,000
The replacement budget amount for each vehicle is for the truck only and does not include costs
for the light bar and plow. Due to updated vehicle frames and styles, plows on existing trucks are
not interchangeable.
