RECOMMENDED ACTION: Presentation of certificates of commendation Each year 100,000 students around the world take part in a program called "Destination ImagiNation." This spring, a team of students from Rosemount Middle School who called themselves "D I Know Youz finished in first place in its category of the global competition in Knoxville, Tenn. In DI, participants work as a team for eight to 12 weeks to create a unique solution to a Team Challenge, which can have a focus that is theatrical, structural, improvisational, scientific, or technical or a blend of several disciplines. Teams also learn and practice creative quick thinking skills for the "Instant Challenge" portion of the program. Destination ImagiNation is intended to help young people learn in a fun and supportive environment, and the valuable skills they acquire will be with them for a lifetime. The Rosemount Middle School team competed in the middle school division of the "Project Outreach: Dynamic Networks" challenge, which requires teams to design and carry out a project to address a real community need and integrate a social network. For their project, members of the D I Know Youz team raised money for items to help girls battling cancer. Several of the team members and their coaches were commended by the City Council last year for previous success in the Destination ImagiNation program. The members of D I Know Youz? are: Lizzie Johnson Megan McKenzie Anna Peterson Dana Thibido Katie Turner Anna Wise and Kasey Zacharias The team is coached by Kris McKenzie and Theresa Wise with the support of Rosemount Middle School Principal Mary Thompson.
