ISSUE
The Community of Rosemount was recently selected as one of the ten finalists for "Best Tennis Town" from
an initial group of 82 cities that submitted entries in the "Best Tennis Town" competition through the USTA.
On behalf of the USTA, Mike Goldhammer, Executive Director of USTA Northern, would like to present a
plaque that recognizes the City of Rosemount's efforts to grow the sport of tennis among people of all ages
and abilities.
BACKGROUND
The search for America's "Best Tennis Town" is the USTA's second nationwide search to identify the local
area —from small, rural towns to large, urban metro areas and everywhere in between —that best exhibits the
qualities of a great tennis community in terms of passion, excitement, and spirit.
Communities from all over the country submitted their entries for consideration on www.besttennistown.com
between April 7 and June 28, 2010, and after carefully reviewing each submission, a panel of judges selected
the following ten communities as the 2010 "Best Tennis Town" finalists:

plaque that recognizes the City of Rosemount's efforts to grow the sport of tennis among people of all ages
and abilities.

Snow Hill, N.C.
Delray Beach, Fla.
Beaverton, Ore.
Atlanta, Ga.
Charleston, S.C.
Rome, Ga.
Richmond, Va.
Rosemount, MN
Manchester Center, Vt.
Each of the ten finalist towns were profiled on www.besttennistown.com, including each community's video
submission displaying their town's spirit and passion for tennis, as well as the impact that tennis has had on an
individual, an organization, and /or the community as a whole. The entire judging criteria included:
1. The level of passion and spirit and the impact of tennis displayed in the Community's video. (50 %)
2. The creativity and originality displayed in the Community's video. (20 %)
3. The level of passion and support for tennis described in the Community's five (5) letters. (15 %)
4. The level of collaboration and partnership surrounding tennis in the Community. This includes
evidence of Community partners working together to support, improve and expand the quality of
life in the Community through tennis (parks, schools, community tennis associations, private
businesses, local government, etc.). (5 %)
5. The quality of tennis programming in the Community, including the programs available to all ages
and skill levels and outreach to underserved populations. (5 %)
6. The thoroughness and level of detail of the responses provided on the nomination form. (5 %)
The nomination process for Rosemount was a collaboration among the City, RAAA, and Rosemount
Middle and High Schools. Program information was submitted by each of these groups to complete the
nomination process. Letters of support were submitted by Mayor Droste, Council Member Kim Shoe -
Corrigan, Parks and Recreation Director Dan Schultz, Don Chapdelaine from SKB, and Mike Haden
(Director of RAAA Tennis). The City submitted the remaining requirements such as general information,
partnership, facility and programming information, and our community profile.
This award means that our efforts to grow the sport among people of all ages and abilities have been
recognized as among the very best in the country.
