Droste, Mayor AGENDA NO. . ATTACHMENTS: APPROVED BY: RECOMMENDED ACTION: Presentation of certificates of commendation Each year, individuals among the Boy Scouts of Rosemount master the skills and complete the service projects that qualify them as Eagle Scouts. The designation is the highest advancement rank for Boy Scouts, reflecting the completion of requirements in the areas of leadership, service, and outdoor skills. Nationally, only five percent of Boy Scouts achieve this goal. Tonight, one week after the 100'' anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America, the City Council continues its tradition of honoring these accomplishments by commending six Scouts from Rosemount who recently achieved the Eagle rank. Tyler Ausen built new canoe and life jacket racks for YMCA Camp Streefland in Lakeville. The campground hosts more than 3,500 kids each summer, and was in need of new racks for its canoeing program. With the help of many adults and scouts, Tyler built the racks adjacent to the lake. Tyler is a senior at Rosemount High School. He plans to attend a local college to get a degree in automotive work or business. Because his mother is a veteran of the Iraq war, he's interested in the military. And he plans to apply to join the Rosemount Fire Department. Joshua Billings organized a landscaping project at the Rosemount Cemetery near Highway 3 and Connemara Trail. The project involved Josh and other volunteers planting 15 trees to improve the cemetery's appearance and, when the trees mature, to provide shade. Josh is a sophomore at Rosemount High School. He is interested in instrumental and choral music and may work toward a teaching or directing career. Jeremy Hoffmann collected 283 items of soccer gear for a needy community in Mexico. He packed up the gear, including 97 soccer balls, 30 jerseys, and two referee uniforms, and delivered them with a youth mission team from the Church of St. Joseph. Tyler is a senior who is home schooled and plans to study to become a mechanical engineer. David Susterick supervised the installation at Rosemount Cemetery of a "reflection center." It includes trees and shrubs, benches, and paving stones, one of which is engraved with the Lord's Prayer. David is a 10t`- grader at Rosemount High School and hopes to attend the University of Wisconsin - Madison to study in the geosciences field. Robert Susterick worked at Meadows Park to complete a City project. On the side of a hill, he worked to remove invasive species and planted four burr oak trees. Robert is also a 10`h- grader at Rosemount High School who wants to attend UW- Madison and study geosciences. Jesse Webb managed an improvement project at the church he attends, South Suburban Evangelical Free Church in Apple Valley. The room used by youth groups contained little more than bare walls. Jesse designed wall displays including a vine running to a wooden cross and a couple of scriptures. Jesse is a 10`h- grader at Rosemount High School and is interesting in pursuing a medical career. 2
