Receive Bids/Award Contract - Demolition of Former Genz Ryan Site and Storage Building at the Former St. Joseph's School4ROSEMOUNTEXECUTIVE SUMMARY CITY COUNCIL City Council Meeting: December 7, 2010 AGENDA ITEM: Receive Bids /Award Contract — Demolition of Former Genz Ryan Site AGENDA SECTION: and Storage Building at the Former St. Consent Joseph's School PREPARED BY: Kim Lindquist, Community Development AGENDA NO. Director ATTACHMENTS: Map, Bid Summary, Resolution APPROVED BY: RECOMMENDED ACTION: Motion to Adopt a Resolution Receiving Bids and Awarding Contract for the Demolition of Former Genz Ryan Site and Storage Building at the Former St. Joseph's School. ISSUE On November 30, 2010, six bids were received for the demolition of the former Genz Ryan site and storage building at the former St. Joseph's school and read aloud publicly. The lowest bid submitted for the project was from Carl Bolander & Sons Co. in the amount of $139,457.00. BACKGROUND The City purchased the Genz Ryan property in February, 2006, with the intention to facilitate redevelopment of the site. For some time the property was leased to various tenants. Leases were not renewed in anticipation of Kraus Anderson purchasing the property and constructing a health clinic. HealthEast decided not to move forward with the clinic and the property has remained vacant ever smce. The property is beginning to show signs of neglect. There have been several instances of vandalism at the site, both inside and out of the buildings. If the City was interested in re- leasing the space, significant repairs would be required such as roof repairs. For the most part, private utilities have been disconnected. Staff believes the property will be more attractive to a future user with removal of the buildings. The site will show better and any city maintenance of the property will be decreased if the buildings are removed. The process of demolishing the buildings has begun with a hazardous material assessment. Removal of the identified materials will begin shortly. The bid before the Council is to demolish the buildings, along with the garage at the Steeple Center, remove all debris and grade and seed the site appropriately. Funds for the demolition will come from the Building CIP (SKB funds).
