CITY COUNCIL
City Council Regular Meeting: April 6, 2010
Tonight the Council welcomes back Jenna O'Rourke. She was commended by the Council two years ago
for achieving the title of Miss Teen Rosemount. She has gone on to greater achievement, and last month
was designated Miss Teen Minnesota for 2010. This summer, she will represent her state and community
at the international pageant.
The Miss Teen International Pageant recognizes young women for their accomplishments in professional
and community stewardship, emphasizing the virtues of elegance, confidence, and intelligence. Sixty
percent of the competition is based on the content of the interview with the candidate and the strength of
her platform, demonstrating organizational skills and community commitment.
Jenna has selected as her platform a theme of "Save Lives, Fulfill Yours." Through volunteer efforts with
the American Cancer Society, her vision is to empower and mobilize communities to prevent cancer, save
lives, and diminish suffering. To encourage the Society's work, Jenna started the High Schools Against
Cancer (H.A.C.) organization at Rosemount High School in 2008. H.A.C. is a way for youth to fight back
within the community and make a difference in the lives of people who are fighting cancer. H.A.C.
celebrates and recognizes survivors, fights back by raising funds, and donates time and talents to the
American Cancer Society.
Jenna lists her interests and hobbies, besides volunteering, as cheerleading, shopping, wake boarding,
tubing, jet skiing, running, photography, collages and scrap booking. She is also active in her church. You
can learn more about her efforts at her website, www.MissTeenMN2010.com.
The Council commends Jenna for her efforts to help cancer fighters and wishes her the best at the Miss
Teen International pageant this July in Chicago.
