Commendation for attainment of Eagle Scout rankROSEMOUNT EXECUTIVE SUMMARY CITY COUNCIL City Council Regular Meeting: April 6, 2010 AGENDA ITEM: Commendation for attainment of Eagle Scout rank AGENDA SECTION: Presentations PREPARED BY: William H. Droste, Mayor AGENDA NO. 5,a, ATTACHMENTS: APPROVED BY: RECOMMENDED ACTION: Presentation of certificate of commendation The community of Rosemount is fortunate each year to have a group of Boy Scouts who master the skills that qualify them as Eagle Scouts. The designation is the highest advancement rank for Boy Scouts, reflecting the completion of requirements in the areas of leadership, service, and outdoor skills. Nationally, only five percent of Boy Scouts achieve this goal. There is a special benefit to our community, because one of the stringent requirements for this achievement is completion of a service project. The City Council tonight continues its tradition of honoring these accomplishments by commending a Scout from Rosemount who recently achieved the Eagle rank. Luke Banchy helped a gardening program that is offered at UMore Park through the extension service and supervised by Barbara Stendahl, Dakota County Master Gardener Coordinator. The program included training for young people on the process of composting. Luke built a three -bin system at the site, and then gave a presentation to students as part of the class on how composting works. Luke is a freshman at Rosemount High School, and it's a bit early for him to be making choices for college, but for now he's likely to pursue education in a field of science.
