Droste, Mayor AGENDA NO. 3 ATTACHMENTS: None APPROVED BY: RECOMMENDED ACTION: Present commendation The City Council asked staff last year to improve the appearance of the public spaces in Rosemount City Hall. Among the goals were to make the lobbies of the building more welcoming to the public and to make the spaces more reflective of the City's natural beauty and heritage. Keeping the project affordable was also a key consideration. Staff worked with Dakota County Technical College faculty member Connie Larson. Ms. Larson is a graphical design technology instructor. She had previously volunteered her efforts and those of her students to create as a course assignment the large murals at the Rosemount Community Center that have been well received by visitors for their historical and lifestyle themes. Ms. Larson readily agreed to assign her students the work at City Hall. They consulted with staff during the fall, created a series of designs for the City's consideration, and then carried out the final choices — no small task, since there was no shortage of people involved who had an opinion. Ms. Larson and the students pulled all those opinions together and masterfully created the murals that went on display late last year. They show the beauty of Rosemount's rural areas, the inviting greenery of the City parks, and the landmarks of the City's past and present development. Ms. Larson is accompanied tonight by some of the students involved. The remainder had other commitments tonight to their studies, or have left school to begin their careers. Based on the quality of their work, we expect them to enjoy every success. The names of the students who worked on the murals are listed on small plaques in the lobby. They are: Renee Anderson Sarah Eshelman Lauren LaPanta Patricia Leaf Joyce Ludwig Carlos Merino Maestre Maria Olson Karen Ramsell Charlotte Schueneman Linda Silver Rachel Sydow Alan Weier Kimberly Wells Hilary Whitaker Alicia Witherill We would also like to acknowledge the work of the students who put together the original set of murals at the Community Center. They are: Amanda Abrahamson Chris Berg Launa Lanning Katie Lucca The City Council thanks this group for creating another successful partnership between the City and its college. Finally, we would like to note the work of City staff who coordinated this project: Kathie Hanson, Roxie Maxa, and Cheryle Coughlin, under the direction of Kim Lindquist. E
