This year, a team from a school in Rosemount was among the top achievers in Minnesota and will compete this summer in the global competition. Tonight we honor the group from Shannon Park Elementary. The team calls itself the "S.P. DI- fference." They placed first in their section of the state competition, which qualified them to advance to the globals that will be held next week at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. In DI, participants work as a team for eight to 12 weeks to create a unique solution to a Team Challenge, which can have a focus that is theatrical, structural, improvisational, scientific, or technical — or a blend of several disciplines. Teams also learn and practice creative quick - thinking skills for the "Instant Challenge" portion of the program. Destination ImagiNation is intended to help young people learn in a fun and supportive environment, and the valuable skills they acquire will be with them for a lifetime. The Shannon Park team created a musical skit to tell the story of homeless animals. They created a website called Presents4Pets.ning.com. They are collecting supplies for the Humane Society and have fundraising activities for their trip, which the members can describe to the Council. The members of the "S.P. DI- fference" team are: Lizzie Johnson Claudia May Megan McKenzie Marissa Owens Anna Peterson and Anna Wise The team is coached by Theresa Wise and Kris McKenzie.
