ISSUE
At the City Council special work session on March 16, 2010, staff discussed with the City Council the
option of replacing the carpet in the main public areas (sanctuary and gathering space) and the possible
change to the surface material on the stage area.
The City's architect firm, CNH Architects, provided a request for pricing to the contractor for replacing
the existing carpet with new squares that were reviewed by the City Council.
The price submitted by the contractor for the new carpet is listed below.
New carpet squares: $34,239
CNH Architects also submitted a request for pricing to the general contractor on the project for
installing wood (or like product) on the stage instead of having new carpet installed. The City's architect
submitted a request for two types of material for the stage. The first was engineered acrylic hardwood
flooring and the second was a luxury vinyl material with a wood grain finish.
The pricing submitted for the two materials is listed below.
Engineered acrylic hardwood flooring: $13,010
Luxury vinyl material with a wood grain finish: $5,787
SUMMARY
Staff has discussed the prices with our architect and he feels they are within the cost range quoted to
him by the manufacturer's representatives. Staff is recommending that the City Council approve a
change order to install the new carpet and use the engineered hardwood flooring system on the stage
area. The combined cost of the two additions is $47,249.
