Fire Chief Reappointment4ROSEMOUNTEXECUTIVE SUMMARY CITY COUNCIL Regular City Council Meeting: March 16, 2010 ISSUE This is a recommendation to appoint Scott Aker to the position of Fire Chief for another three years. His current term is expiring on April 1 st, and according to Fire Department policy, the chief is to be selected from applicants meeting the minimum qualifications for the position. There were two applicants for the position this year. In accordance with Fire Department by -laws, an interview panel was established consisting of three members of the Fire Department and three outside participants. The interviewers were Jim Voelker, Pete Lundell and Kevin Rambo from the Fire Department, Emmy Foster and Gary Kalstabakken from the City staff, and Fire Chief Judy Thill from Inver Grove Heights. I sat in on the interviews also. Chief Aker has been Fire Chief for 22 years and a member of the department since 1982. He has a long resume of training, education and experience. He is well qualified to continue in the position and it is thereby recommended by both the interview panel and myself that his appointment to the position of Fire Chief be confirmed by the Council. SUMMARY I recommend that Council approve the Reappointment of Scott Aker as Fire Chief for a period of three years.
