ATTACHMENTS: APPROVED BY: op) RECOMMENDED ACTION: Presentation of plaque 4 ROSEMOUNT CITY COUNCIL City Council Regular Meeting: June 2, 2009 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY The City Council supports education in the community and has taken opportunities to commend students who achieve at a high level and volunteers who support educational efforts. Tonight, the Council honors the superintendent of the Rosemount -Apple Valley -Eagan School District, John Currie, who will retire at the end of the month. Mr. Currie has served 37 years in public education, all in Minnesota. He graduated from St. Charles High School and Winona State University. He began teaching in Gibbon and moved to Waseca, where he spent 20 years as a teacher and then administrator. He moved to Faribault Junior High, and then came to our district in 1995 to open Black Hawk Middle School. In 2000, Currie was asked to become the district's human resources director and then director of secondary education. The School Board named Currie interim superintendent in 2003 and four months later was its selection for the permanent position. In the words of the plaque we are about to present, The Rosemount City Council commends JOHN CURRIE Superintendent, Rosemount -Apple Valley -Eagan School District, 2003 -2009 On behalf of the citizens of Rosemount, we thank you for improving the lives of our young people and their families. Your leadership contributed to the quality and national reputation of our schools. Your work will provide Rosemount with lasting benefits through well educated students and a tradition of excellence. We are a better community because you served. Thank you. Mr. Currie is expected to be accompanied by some of the administrators of the public schools in Rosemount.
