EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
ISSUE
At the work session on August 12 the City Council discussed the possibility of forming a Youth
Commission. The Council was in consensus that it is worthwhile to organize a youth commission to
promote youth civic engagement in our City.
Councilmembers Kurt Bills and Kim Shoe Corrigan, Planning Commissioner Kyle Irving, and Mayor
Droste have expressed interest in helping to organize the Youth Commission. After discussion with the
Mayor and City Administrator Johnson, I will be the staff liaison for this commission if one is created.
Once more information becomes available and a framework is established, it will all be brought back to
the Council for approval in the form of a resolution or ordinance.
Other discussion items at that time may include possible opportunities, projects, advisory roles, age or
grade levels of members, and the size of the group.
SUMMARY
Staff recommends that the Council make a motion to proceed with the formation of a Youth Commission.
