Tonight the City has the honor of recognizing the latest in a string of accomplishments for the young
people, the directors, and the families associated with the Rosemount High School Marching Band. For
the fourth year in a row, the band has won the state championship for its performance. The award came
in competition at the Metrodome on October 24. Rosemount also took home the Outstanding Winds,
Outstanding Color Guard, and the 2009 Youth in Music Grand Championship awards.
The championships are the culmination of another year of hard work by the student musicians. The
marching band placed first in the judging of participants in the Minnesota State Fair Parades. Rosemount
came in first in its class in competitions at Eastview, Marshall, Irondale, and Sioux Falls. The Irish were
the top band from the upper Midwest and sixth overall at the Bands of America (BOA) Super Regional
competition in St. Louis, Missouri. Those successes came despite the fact that competitions and practices
were hindered by the unseasonably wet fall in the area. Rosemount overcame those obstacles to win the
state championship.
A video of the award wining performance will be shown during the Council meeting. And the Council's
commendation will be presented to student leaders and to the directors of the band. The band will
continue to serve as ambassadors of the community's commitment to the arts and excellence during
performances later this school year, including a trip in the spring to Hawaii.
