Rosemount's clean up events are intended to provide our residents with an opportunity to dispose of unwanted items that are not normally collected by their residential solid waste haulers. Our goal is to provide this opportunity while minimizing the amount of materials that end up in local landfills. For this reason, we try to find recycling options for as much of the material we collect as possible. For many years we have collected and separated out the electronics, appliances, tires, automotive batteries, and scrap metal, and have delivered them to local recycling facilities. In just the last year we have started to collect and recycle bicycles and carpeting. Bicycles in ANY CONDITION will be collected by a firm called "Re- Cycle As many of the bikes as possible will be restored and returned to the road for re -use while others will be stripped for parts. According to Re- Cycle, a re -used bicycle saves approximately 350 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions by reducing the need to produce a new bicycle! Until last fall, all of the carpet we collected at our clean up events ended up in a landfill. When properly recycled, over 90% of the material in carpet can be reused. This year we will be working with Bro -Tex Inc. to accept and recycle the rolled carpet and carpet pads we collect at our spring event. New this spring, we will be working with Rosemount Saw and TooL Rosemount Saw and Tool will accept power equipment, particularly lawn mowers and snow blowers, for free and will recover any still useable components, and refurbish those that can be put back into use. Previously, lawn mowers and snow blowers were collected with scrap metal but were a concern because of the gas and oil they might still contain, as well as the volume of their plastic and rubber components. We appreciate the opportunity to work with Rosemount Saw and Tool who are a local business helping us toward our goal of finding a reuse /recycling option for as much of the material we collect as possible. Residents with questions regarding the Spring Clean Up Day should look through the City's Summer Parks and Recreation Brochure, call the City's Solid Waste Coordinator at 651 322 -6005 or check the City's website for more information.
