Brotzler, PE, City Engineer •J ATTACHMENTS: Quotes APPROVED BY: RECOMMENDED ACTION: Motion to Accept Quote and Authorize Work to Commence for Schwarz Pond Park Parking Lot Paving ISSUE: Consider contracting improvements for Schwarz Pond Park parking lot. BACKGROUND: The 2008 budget includes funding for the re- paving of Schwarz Pond Park parking lot in the amount of $52,500 (line item 101 45202 -01- 530.04). In addition to this, funding is included under line item 101- 43121-01- 415.00 for the rental of a paving machine to complete the work with city crews. Based on the increases in bituminous prices for city purchase of materials, the total estimated hard cost for materials and equipment rental (paving machine) to complete the work with city crews is approximately $58,000. This cost does not include City labor, equipment and fuel. Based on discussions with paving contractors this year, it became apparent that the city may be able to contract the completion of the work at a comparable cost. One of the reasons for this is the value of removed bituminous to contractors for recycling which the city will not realize if the work is completed by city crews to remove and dispose of the existing bituminous. Prior to proceeding with the work by city crews, the attached quotations were obtained. A summary of the quotes is as follows: Pine Bend Paving, Inc. $60,000.00 McNamara Contracting, Inc. $69,311.50 Northwest Asphalt, Inc. $81,075.00 Upon review of the above quotes and considering the savings in city soft costs for labor (estimated at 260 hours), equipment and fuel, the low quote amount of $60,000.00 is reasonable. SUMMARY: Staff is requesting Council consideration to authorize the contracted completion of the work by Pine Bend Paving, Inc. in the amount of $60,000.00.
