EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
BACKGROUND:
Attached for Council consideration is Change Order #1 for the 2008 Street Improvement Project, City
Project #418.
This change order represents additional costs incurred as a result of the following work:
1. Replacing gate valve boxes that either broke or were unable to adjust and required additional
materials to raise to the correct grade.
2. Replacing a catch basin and storm sewer pipe at the intersection of Chippendale and 156 Street
that was severely deteriorated.
3. Installation of block retaining wall in areas where the sidewalk installation is to occur to potentially
reduce the amount of property impacts.
These changes result in a net increase of $14,543.74 for a revised contract amount of $817,046.97.
SUMMARY:
Staff recommends Council approval of Change Order No. 1 for the 2008 Street Improvement Project,
City Project #418.

Dear Mr. Brotzler:
Please find enclosed Change Order No. 1 that results in a net increase in project cost of $14,543.74 for the
above referenced project. Change Order No. 1 increases the contract amount from $802,503.23 to a new
revised contract amount of $817,046.97. The major items of work included as part of Change Order No. 1 are
as follows:
ADDED ITEMS:
Item 66: Salvage Gate Valve and Box Contract items only included adjustments of gate valves and
once construction began it was realized that two of the gate valve boxes were not adjustable and needed
partial replacement.
Item 67: Concrete Storm Sewer At the intersection of Chippendale Avenue and 156 Street there was
a catch basin that was severely deteriorated and required replacement along with approximately 6 feet
of 12 -inch RCP pipe.
Item 68: Block Retaining Wall As part of the sidewalk review it was determined that some of the
property impacts associated with the sidewalk installation may be minimized with the addition of small
retaining walls. The exact quantity is unknown at this time but has been estimated as part of the change
order.
