Next month a group of Rosemount students will make their own trip to Rottweil. Representing that group at tonight's meeting are teacher Susan Sullivan and students Luke Schofield and John Hannasch. As a token of goodwill, Mayor Droste has obtained a U.S. flag that has flown over the Capitol in Washington. The Mayor tonight will present the flag to the Rosemount group and ask them to present it to his counterpart in Rottweil, Lord Mayor Thomas Engeser. It is accompanied by a letter that Ms. Sullivan has translated into German- Dear Lord Mayor Engeser: On behalf of our community, I would like to send you greetings from the City of Rosemount, Minnesota, USA. We have been pleased to meet many young people from your city as part of the schools' exchange programs. We are deeply grateful that you will serve as hosts this summer for our own children and some of their teachers and parents. Rosemount is a growing city that has just celebrated the 150th anniversary of its founding. Our name and many of our traditions come from the earliest settlers from Ireland. But almost half of our residents identify themselves as having a German ancestry. We are pleased that the next generation of our citizens is establishing ties with your nation, and we hope those ties will endure. Please accept from our young ambassadors a flag, provided by the local post of the American Legion and our representative in Congress. This flag was flown briefly over the United States Capitol building in Washington. My colleagues on the Rosemount City Council and I hope you will find that it expresses the growing friendship between our communities. Sincerely, William H. Droste Mayor
