RECOMMENDED ACTION: Motion to Authorize the Purchase of Equipment, a the
Procurement of Financing with Equipment Certificates.
ISSUE:
Consider scheduled equipment replacement for 2008.
BACKGROUND:
Staff is requesting Council authorization to purchase equipment scheduled in the 2008 Capital
Improvement Plan (CIP) that is identified to be purchased with equipment certificates. As shown on the
attached 2008 CIP, five items are scheduled to be purchased with equipment certificates.
1. Bobcat (replace #8418)
This bobcat is 10 years old with 1,600 hours of use. Staff recommends replacing this Bobcat with a new
one that will be on a one -year lease replacement schedule, which minimizes future maintenance costs.
2. Emergency Generator for the Public Works Mechanics Garage
An emergency generator is needed in this building to supply power during power outages. Without power
to this building, all garage doors are inoperable. Most of the shop equipment needs electrical power to
operate as well.
3. Groundsmaster Mower (replace #8068)
Asset 8068 is a 6 -year old Groundsmaster mower with 2,240 hours of use. Based on the City's
replacement schedule and the attached evaluation of the item, Staff is recommending the replacement of
this item.
4. Backhoe with Jackhammer Attachment (replace #8407 and #0179)
Asset 8407 is a 20 -year old backhoe with 2,625 hours of use. Based on the City's replacement schedule
and the attached evaluation, Staff is recommending the replacement of these items.

and the attached evaluation, Staff is recommending the replacement of asset 8431 with a new single axle
dump. Asset 8431 would be rotated in the fleet to become the new water truck, replacing asset 8430
which would be sent to auction.
SUMMARY:
Staff recommends Council authorization for the purchase of this equipment and the procurement of
