EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
For the third year in a row, the Rosemount High School marching band has won the state championship.
Rosemount finished first among Class AAA bands in Minnesota and was named Grand Champion of all
bands that competed at the Youth in Music Marching Band Championships held October 25 in the
Metrodome. Rosemount also captured awards for Outstanding Winds, Outstanding Colorguard, and
Outstanding Drumline.
The week before, the Irish marching band finished fourth out of 56 bands from 14 states that competed at
the Bands of America Super Regional Championships in St. Louis. Rosemount was the highest finishing
band from Minnesota and had a top -five finish for the second year in a row. Rosemount had advanced to
the St. Louis event through regional competition. In the history of this competition, this is the highest
placement ever of any band from Minnesota and the Upper Midwest.
The work for the 158 members of the Irish marching band begins in early summer. The commitment of
these students, their directors, and their supporting school and families bring recognition to our
community.
The school has supplied the Council with a video of part of the band's performance at the state
championship, which will be played during tonight's meeting.
Band director Steve Olsen will introduce his colleagues Leon Sieve and John Theisen, and drum majors
Karen Lamb, Nick Pranke, and Luke Schofield from the championship band.
