Droste, Mayor AGE . - 5 A ATTACHMENTS: Proclamation, Certificate APPROVED BY: RECOMMENDED ACTION: Proclaim April 18 - 24, 2004 National Volunteer Week., ACTION: ISSUE Encourage community volunteering BACKGROUND Rosemount continues to be a friendly community that offers the opportunities to live, work, shop, play, and learn. Volunteering is an extension of a caring community. This year the Points of Light Foundation is hosting National Volunteer Week, April 18 -24, 2004. "The theme this year is, "Inspire by Example." Rosemount has many organizations and individuals who devote their time to improving their community or helping others. The City would like to encourage those who continue to volunteer and inspire residents to find ways to contribute to their community. SUMMARY The City would like to honor organizations and noted individuals that have volunteered their time for the good of the community. Mayor Droste will present certificates of appreciation to organizations and groups at this City Council meeting. Individuals will also receive honorable mention and a mailed certificate. Because anybody can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't have to make your subject and your verb agree to serve. You , don't have to know about Plato and Aristotle to serve. You don't have to know Einstein's theory of relativity to serve. You don't have to know the second theory of thermodynamics in physics to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by dove.
