Minnesota Recreation & Parks Association Communication AwardR CITY OF ROSEMOUNT EXECUTIVE SUMMARY FOR ACTION CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: February 3, 2004 AGENDA ITEM: Minnesota Recreation and Parks Association AGENDA SECTION: (MRPA) Communications Award DEPARTMENT HEAD REPORT PREPARED BY: Dan Schultz, Parks and Recreation Director AGE NffElM - ` 5 ATTACHMENTS: Letter Announcing Award APPROVED BY: The Rosemount Parks and Recreation Department, along with the Cities of Eagan, Inver Grove Heights, Apple Valley, Independent School District 196 and the Southwest YMCA, recently received an Award of Excellence from the MRPA for a Youth and Teen Program Guide for 2002 that the local communities collaborated on. The guide was designed to target youth in grades 5 - 12 with a variety of traditional and non- traditional recreational opportunities, plus volunteer and job opportunities. Because of the limited budgets and teen program offerings the collaboration allowed each organization a new method of marketing. Accepting the award from the Rosemount Parks and Recreation Department is Lisa Maurer, Recreation Supervisor. Ms. Maurer played a vital role in seeing that this program guide was put into publication. Ms. Maurer's strong working relationships with our neighboring recreational professionals allowed for the open communications and the sharing of ideas. The outcomes of her hard work have been stronger program offerings, cost effective marketing and future collaboration opportunities. RECOMMENDED ACTION: None.
