The City has received information from a mentoring program, Kids'n Kinship. January is National
Mentoring Month and they have requested recognition and support for the efforts of the organization.
This program has a positive effect on children and the adults that mentor them.
Seeing a benefit to recognize volunteers in our community, Council is asked to approve this
proclamation.

PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, the City of Rosemount, Minnesota is actively concerned and involved in nurturing
and supporting education and the youth of Rosemount;
WHEREAS, young people who have mentors have a better chance of succeeding and are more
likely to make positive choices.
WHEREAS, research shows volunteer mentors can play a powerful role in reducing risky
adolescent behaviors such as drug and alcohol abuse and youth violence, while greatly enhancing
a young person's prospects for leading a healthy and productive life.
WHEREAS, in Minnesota, there are an estimated 450,000 young people who could benefit
from an adult mentor.
WHEREAS, with the support of businesses, communities, and caring adults we can help
introduce a child to new ideas and opportunities through mentoring.
THEREFORE, as Mayor of the City of Rosemount, I hereby do proclaim that we celebrate the
thousands of adult mentors already volunteering across the county and in our determined efforts
to recruit new mentors, we proclaim January 2004 as National Mentoring Month.
