EXECUTIVE SUMMARY FOR ACTION
CITY COUNCIL MEETING: February 17, 2004
AGENDA ITEM: Community Facilities Task Force AGENDA SECTION:
CONSENT AGENDA
PREPARED BY: Dan Schultz, Parks and Recreation Director O
ATTACHMENTS: None APPROVED BY
At the December Committee of the Whole meeting, the Council and staff discussed possibly forming a
task force to investigate the need for additional recreational facilities that have been requested. Staff
recommended forming a task force to help conduct a needs assessment for facilities. Possible facilities
would include a senior center, arts center, youth center, aquatic center, and a second sheet of ice. An
athletic complex would not be part of the assessment because the Parks and Recreation Commission
recently finished a similar needs assessment process for athletic fields.
Staff contacted the local high school and community organizations, published press releases, and sent
information to those people who have shown an interest in serving on a City commission. Staff has
received a sufficient number of applicants from at -large residents. Names have also been forwarded to
staff by local groups who have requested additional facilities.
Staff is recommending approval of the people listed below to serve on the Community Facilities Task
Force:
