BIDS FOR AGENDA SECTION: BREATHING APPARATUS AND COMPRESSOR SYSTEM CONSENT PREPARED BY: SCOTT AKER, FIRE CHIEF AGENDA NO ' ff EM #A I ATTACHMENTS: Bid Opening List, Public Notice APPROVED BY: The Fire Department held the Bid Opening for the Self: Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) units and an Air Compressor System on Tuesday, February 20, 2004 at 5:00 p.m. Captain Kevin Tucker and a task force group from the Fire Department reviewed the results and made the following recommendation under the estimated expenditure of $132,000: 1.) 30 Self- Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) units - Continental Safety $88,524.31 2.) 6000 PSI Compressor System - Clarey's Safety Equipment $24,795.00 Add Alternate CO/H20 Monitor 4,000.00 Sub -Total $28,795.00 (Compressor trade -in value -6,000.00) Total $22,795.00 GRAND TOTAL $111,319.31 Captain Tucker noted some irregularities in the bids because of standard features included in some models and not with others. The Fire Department was impressed with Clarey's Safety Equipment's readiness to answer questions and provide demonstrations of the new equipment. After examination of each bid, the recommended equipment has been selected to provide the best safety coverage available for the Rosemount Fire Department. The published Public Notice included the statement that the City reserves the right to accept the bid it feels is in the best interest of the community. MES Compressor $26,305.00 Trade -in - 1,750.00 Total $24,555.00 H2O /CO monitors add $2,500.00 Linda - After careful review of all the bids received these are the numbers that we feel should be presented to city council for their approval. When we talked yesterday, we expressed our feelings towards all of the vendors and their compressors. Clarey's is not the lowest bidder, but the SCBA committee is most impressed with their professionalism, quality and service, which we feel would be in the best interest and meet the needs of the City of Rosemount. ? 002 /00Z P.S. CITY OF ROSEMOUNT ADVERTISEMENT OF BID SELF - CONTAINED BREATHING APPARATUS (SCBA) Notice is hereby given that sealed bids will be received by the City of Rosemount until 5:00 p.m. on February 24, 2004 and will then be publicly opened and read aloud. Bids are being requested for thirty (30) self - contained breathing apparatus. Specifications may be obtained through the office of the City Clerk, City of Rosemount, 2875 145 St. W., Rosemount, MN 55068. All bids shall be on forms on file in the office of the City Clerk, which will be furnished free, to each bidder upon his request. All bids must be sealed, marked "Bids for Self- Contained Breathing Apparatus" and addressed to the City Clerk. Each bid shall be accompanied by a certified check, cashier's check, or bid bond in the amount of five (5 %) percent of the total bid price, made payable to the City of Rosemount. The City of Rosemount reserves the right to reject any and all bids and to accept the bid it feels is in the best interest of the community. Dated this 21st day of January, 2004.
