COUNCIL ACTION:
A Certificate of Appreciation is to be presented to Brad Renn, district winner of this year's
Congressional Art Competition. Renn's pastel collage, "Portrait of a Woman," received top honors in
the district represented by Congressman John Kline. Renn and Kline attended a ceremony at the United
States Capitol last month in which the work was displayed with other district winners. It will remain on
exhibit at the Capitol Complex for one year.
Renn is the 19- year -old son of Brad Sr. and Kathy Renn of Rosemount. He graduated from Rosemount
High School this year, and will attend the Institute of Production and Recording in Minneapolis this fall,
where he will study audio engineering. Renn considers music his main form of art, and performed with
his band at the Leprechaun Days "Teen Battle of the Bands" last week.
Our 2003 residential survey showed 79% of Rosemount residents considered a strong arts and cultural
presence to be "very important" or "somewhat important." This is an area where we need to work with
local artists to find a way to build an organized arts structure in Rosemount -- to assist in making
Rosemount a better living environment, where arts can be shared with everyone in the area.
