The Parks and Recreation Department has recently encountered a problem with the cooling system in the
arena. A customer alerted staff that there was smoke coming from the chillers which are located outside the
building near the west entrance to the arena. Staff contacted three HVAC contactors to look into the
problem. All three have indicated that a chiller needs to be replaced. Staff has been supplementing the one
working chiller by using outdoor air to help cool the arena. With the warm weather months ahead, this repair
needs to happen in order for staff to make ice during the spring summer and fall months. Staff is
recommending paying for this repair out of the arena budget reserves. Listed below are the three quotes
received for the replacement:
Corporate Mechanical $24,928
Metropolitan Mechanical $25,600
Trane /Cramer Building Services $27,000
Staff is recommending the Council approve the contract with Corporate Mechanical for $24,928 to replace
the arena chiller.
RECOMMENDED ACTION: motion to recommend approval of the contract with Corporate
Mechanical for $24,928 to replace the arena chiller.
