Authorize Recrutiment for Community Development DirectorCITY OF ROSEMOUNT EXECUTIVE SUMMARY FOR ACTION CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: JULY 1, 2003 AGENDA ITEM: AUTHORIZE RECRUITMENT FOR AGENDA SECTION: COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR CONSENT PREPARED BY: JAMIE VERBRUGGE, AGENDI #6 E CITY ADMINISTRATOR ATTACHMENTS: NONE APPROVED BY: �V The position of Community Development Director has been vacant for the past two months while staff looked at things such as job responsibilities, compensation and the possibility of retaining a recruitment firm. Staff is now requesting that Council review and authorize decisions resulting from this analysis: 1. A revised job description for the position of Community Development Director. 2. The pay range for the position is currently $61,374 - $76,717. In order to be competitive with other metropolitan cities with comparable population, staff requests that the 2003 compensation for the position be modified to $64,827 — $80,377. 3. Quotes from outside recruiting firms indicated that recruitment for the position would cost at least $12,000. Considering current fiscal restraints, staff proposes to handle the recruitment internally. Advertising will be placed, in the Star Tribune and in publications of the ICMA, League of Minnesota Cities and the Economic Development Association of Minnesota. Applicants will complete a supplementary application which, along with education and work experience, will be evaluated initially. Staff will then narrow down the field in an initial round of interviewees. In the final round of interviews, some Council Members and Commissioners will have the opportunity to sit on panel along with members of City staff. RECOMMENDED ACTION: MOTION TO APPROVE THE REVISED JOB DESCRIPTION AND 2003 COMPENSATION FOR THE POSITION OF COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR AND AUTHORIZE STAFF TO BEGIN THE RECRUITMENT PROCESS.
