Due to complaints received about the sidewalk located between 146 Street and 147` Street, City staff in the fall of
2002 surveyed residents regarding its removal. Ten people responded, five were in favor of removal and five were in
favor of keeping the sidewalk. The Parks and Recreation Commission and staff reviewed the location of the
sidewalk and its function and are recommending the sidewalk be removed and the right of way be vacated. The
sidewalk is located in an area that would be considered to carry a low number of users. It also is currently serving
better to drain storm water rather than serve as a walkway. Any improvements that the City would need to make to
the walkway could require items encroaching into the ten -foot right of way to be removed.
Staff is recommending the sidewalk be removed and the area be restored. Staff will be coming back at a later date
with a resolution to conduct a public hearing to officially vacate the right of way. The City will need to have a
drainage /utility easement due to the storm water collection system existing in the right of way.
RECOMMENDED ACTION: Motion to approve the removal of the sidewalk located between 146 Street
and 147 Street and have the site restored.
