Our current file servers are in need of replacement and $40,000 was budgeted for this project in 2003. Staff solicited quotes from two companies and received quotes from both for less than the budgeted amount. After your authorization we will order the servers and accessories necessary to complete the upgrade from the vendor. I am estimating that we would be up and running on the new servers by the first of March. Rather than discarding the old servers, we will be working with our computer consultants to reuse these computers as storage devices for specialty programs used by all City staff. Some of the costs incurred will help complete this switchover of uses for the old servers. RECOMMENDED ACTION: Authorize staff to proceed forward with the purchase of new file servers and other applicable accessory items for the City of Rosemount.
