The City Council authorized preparation of plans and specifications for the Chippendale Avenue and CSAH 42
road improvement project at its meeting on May 21. A second action was directing staff to continue
negotiations with property owners impacted by the proposed median on Chippendale Avenue south of County
Road 42.
As reported in the Weekly Update of May 30, mediation between the City and property owners was successful.
The brief explanation of the agreement is that the City will design Chippendale Avenue to have a median
protecting the northbound left -turn lane to the access driveway, with a painted separator from the driveway to
151" Street, thereby preserving unrestricted access to Holiday and Chippendale Center. The City Council will
adopt a resolution that specifically identifies criteria that will be used to trigger reevaluation of the safety
conditions at the intersection. The City agrees to bring the property owners back to the table when a trigger
occurs to look at additional mitigation options.
Staff will present the mediated agreement in greater detail at the meeting on June 11. If the City Council is
comfortable with the terms of the agreement, the issue will be back before the City Council for final
authorization on June 17 as directed.
RECOMMENDED ACTION: Give staff direction to place final authorization of plans and specifications
on the June 17 City Council agenda
