In the past for construction projects, the City has typically used sod for final restoration in areas
where feasible. Due to recent problems with sod quality and increasing costs to maintain sod
when it fails, the Engineering Department is proposing to seed areas that normally in the past
would have been restored with sod. Discussions have been held with other communities that
only seed and several landscaping companies to understand all of the benefits of seeding versus
laying sod:
Staff is intending to experiment with the Chippendale Avenue project from the past year by
seeding the entire project instead of placing sod.
