RECOMMENDED ACTION: Motion to authorize the purchase of equipment and declare
the Listed Items as Surplus Property and Authorize Staff to sell them.
ISSUE
Two Police Department patrol vehicles are scheduled for replacement in 2017. Each vehicle being
replaced is beyond its service period.
Two replacement vehicles were proposed in the 2017 10-year Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) Working
Program approved by City Council in 2016. The Police Department intends to purchase two Ford Police
Interceptor Utilities from Nelson Auto Center, Fergus Falls, Minnesota. Nelson Auto Center is an
authorized dealer for police squads through the Minnesota Cooperative Purchasing Venture (CPV)
program.
The two vehicles scheduled to be replaced are the following:
2009 Chevrolet Tahoe it currently has 83,564 miles. It is estimated to have over 95,000 miles
before it will be replaced.
2014 Ford Explorer it currently has 92,747 miles. It is estimated to have over 105,000 miles before
it will be replaced.
A description of the two replacement vehicles is provided below:
2 – 2017 Ford Police Interceptor 4-door Police Utility (black) $59,051.96
The 2014 Ford Explorer and 2009 Chevrolet Tahoe will be sold utilizing Cranky Ape auction service.
SUMMARY
Staff is requesting Council authorization for the purchase of two new police patrol vehicles scheduled in
the 2017 CIP and Staff recommends Council authorize to declare the two police squad cars as surplus
property and authorize staff to sell both vehicles.
