Below Council will note a proposed revision to the City's Personnel Policy. The revision being proposed is
being made to reflect new contract language added by the AFSCME contract for 2002:
Section 13. WORK SCHEDULE
The regularly scheduled workweek for full -time non - exempt employees is eight (8) hours per day and
forty (40) hours per week, including rest periods and excluding lunch periods.
Hours worked in excess of forty (40) hours within a seven (7) day period by part-time non - exempt
employees or eight (8) hours in a day (24 hours) by non - exempt full -time employees will be
compensated for atone and one -half (1 -1/2) times the employee's regular rate of pay. For the purpose
of computing overtime compensation, overtime hours worked shall not be pyramided, compounded, or
paid twice for the same hours worked.
Emplovees may by mutual aereement with their emvlover. work schedules other than the normal
workday and workweek. Employees who mutually agree to a schedule that includes a workday longer
than eight hours shall not receive overtime pay; however, hours worked in excess of 40 hours in a week
will continue to be compensated at one and one -half times the employee's regular rate of pay.
Alternative work schedules for employees represented by labor unions must be specifically outlined in
. agreement between th Ci ty and the employee's respective bargaining unit.
Department heads may establish special hours for their department if approved by the City
Administrator.
RECOMMENDED ACTION: MOTION TO APPROVE THE PROPOSED REVISION TO THE CITY'S
PERSONNEL POLICY.
COUNCIL ACTION:
